ABOUΤ

Yannis' roots are in Crete, Greece. Big part of his life belongs to this island, shaped by its landscapes, history and spirit.
He serves science and research as a physicist (laser technician), an influence that informs a precise sensitivity to light, structure and observation.
However, he has always embraced his second nature, his artistic alter ego.

This nest is devoted to painting, the voice that began speaking in him as a child.

His transition to color (from charcoal and black pencils) came through soft pastels, drawn by the intimate act of blending shades with bare fingers.

Somewhat late, perhaps, he eventually picked up the brushes as well.

He is drawn to capturing the past, the unknown and the imaginary. He is deeply attracted to realism in detail (sometimes struggling to detach) and to hyperrealism/surrealism in concept. When science and art converge, that is where his work feels most complete.

As he loves words and enjoys “playing” with them, he says that...

"I am a scientist. I am an artist. I am a scieRtist"

As of 2013 he is a member of the Asociación de Pintores Pastelistas de España, ASPAS (Spanish Society of Pastel Painters) (press link) and of 2026 an associate member of the Pastel Guild Of Europe (press link).

Selected work of his is also presented on international platforms such as Saatchi Art (press link).
